It has captivating sounds and lights. THe voice reads aloud to the child as she turns the pages and manipulates the page features. I wouldn't suggest is take the place of parents reading to their children, but it's good to occupy children when mom or dad can't be right there with them at the moment. This was given as a gift to our 7 mo old daughter. We like it since she can "read" to herself using this book.
Wonderful book, but if you buy it from Amazon you are not a very good shopper. I can't believe this is selling for $40 online. This same toy is no more than 19.99 at target.
I'd buy again and also in different stories.Check walmart.com for pricing because it's WAY less than offered on here. Fisher Price also has a book like this but THIS books pages are high gloss stickers that are perfect and easy to wipe off. The Fisher Price one has cardstock pages glued to their hard plastic "pages" so not nearly as baby friendly. My DD has loved this book for over a year now.
The toy has no off button, only louder and quieter. An off button would be great.
The rest of the rhyme is printed on each page for the parent to read to the child, but that's not always how these kinds of toys are used. The only other setback is that the toy never finishes a Rhyme, so if your child plays with it on his own, he basically only knows part of the rhymes.
This toy is cute, durable and fun to play with. Very irritating.
I give it 5 stars for durability, 2 for education (imcomplete rhymes), 2 for fun (3 - 5 minutes of play at a time), and two stars because it's so bothersome to not have an off switch and because again, the rhymes are incomplete. For me, however, I have to be able to use the toy in a way that a parent would.
That means if my child has been playing with the toy, I have to make sure to flip the book to the last page and have it say, "the end" to make sure it doesn't keep talking to itself in the toybox at night.
When she gets a little older, I'm sure we will still be using it for sing alongs and eventually help her learn to read. It is a good distraction for her while we're changing her. We've had this book on our changing table to entertain our daughter practically since she came home from the hospital. Now, at a little over two months, she has learned how to move some of the buttons to get it to play music (she can do the star and the baby, and occasionally the barn door) on her own.
